Music

Make A Joyful Noise! Praising God at Every Age
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth,” Psalm 100 extols.  “Worship the Lord with gladness; come into God’s presence with singing.”

Our Music Ministry is multi-faceted and encompasses all ages. Each Sunday you will hear a combination of our Adult Choir and Worship Team, using their voices and various instruments for God's glory and to enhance our worship is a gift to our church.

Music has long played an important role in the life of First Presbyterian Church of El Cajon (FPC). Our worship is rich in congregational song in the form of hymns, psalms, responses, and Taizé chants. Our Church Choir and Children’s Choirs enhance our liturgies with choral music written by composers from the 16th Century to the present day, and our services typically begin and end with organ masterworks performed by Carol Cunningham.

We are always looking for more heavenly voices to join our Choir and Worship Team. If you are interested please contact Choir Director Jan Lorentzen or Worship Team Leader Erik Lingren (619) 442-2583

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings in Bailey Hall. Practice begins at 7pm and ends at 8:30pm. We sing a wide variety of church music including some classical selections along with more contemporary church music. Rehearsals, while fast-paced and task-oriented, still allow for laughter, fun and great fellowship.

New Generation Bell Choir

The New Generation Bell Choir is primarily made up of middle school and high school youth, although adults also have participated in this handbell ensemble. To join you do not need to read music or have rung before. You simply need to be willing to learn. Rehearsals are from 4:30 to 5:30pm each Wednesday afternoon. Cindy Graham is the director.

Jubilation Bell Choir

Jubilation Bell Choir is for anyone interested in ringing handbells. Many members in the group have rung together for several years now, but this is still the best choir for beginners who are still learning the skills and techniques of the art of handbell ringing. The Jubilation Bells rehearse on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Judy Farrar is the director.

Celebration Bell choir

The Celebration Bell Choir is for experienced ringers or persons with musical background. The repertoire for this group is more challenging and the rehearsal time longer than for the other two choirs. The choir rehearses from 6:30 to 8:00pm on Wednesday evenings. Jan Lorentzen is the director.

If you are interested in any of these musical groups feel free to contact the directors through the church office.
