YOUR WEDDING IN OUR CHURCH

El Cajon First Presbyterian Church was built to the glory of God and is a witness to our faith in Jesus Christ. It is maintained by our members and friends but exists to serve this community. Its use, therefore, is not restricted to members. Wedding services here are performed in the context of worship. It is expected that the content of the service be consistent with Christian theology and practice. Our wedding coordinator is prepared to guide you in these matters. All who desire a church setting, a spiritual foundation for their marriage, and who will use this facility in reverence for God, are most welcome to use our church under the direction of our staff.

WEDDING DATE RESERVATIONS

A non-refundable fee of $250 is required along with a completed Marriage Information Form to reserve the date for your wedding on our church calendar. The fee will be applied to the total amount of fees for your wedding. The balance is due three weeks before your rehearsal date. Payment should be made to the church office.

OFFICIATING MINISTER

It is possible to have the pastor of your choice officiate at your service, but this must have previous approval of our pastor.

The pastor requests at least three or four counseling sessions with the prospective bride and groom in order that the Christian meaning of marriage may be discussed, and questions answered. These sessions should be arranged as soon as possible. We ask that you contact the pastor through the church office, 442-2583. An honorarium for the pastor is expected in consideration of time required for counseling, the rehearsal, and the ceremony. The honorarium is to be given directly to the pastor at the rehearsal or on the day of the wedding.

WEDDING COORDINATOR

All questions concerning arrangements for weddings should be directed to the wedding coordinator,Kristen Kotz 619-442-2583. Please feel free to call her for information.

The wedding coordinator will supervise the arrangements in the Sanctuary set up; will secure the organist, sound, and clean-up persons; and will also direct the rehearsal.

CHURCH ACCOMMODATIONS

Our church Sanctuary will seat 400 persons. There are 40 pews (20 on each side of the center aisle). If you wish to drape ribbon between pews, you will need 250 feet. No decorations may be placed on the pulpit, baptismal font, or the communion table. Pew bows may be attached with plastic pew hooks, chenille wire, or ribbon only.

WEDDING MUSIC

You have chosen to be married in a church because you want to ask the blessing of God on your life together. Therefore, the music you choose to have sung and/or played at your wedding should be appropriate for the house of God. Devotional music, instrumental and/or vocals, including quiet ballad songs, may be used before the wedding procession. During the marriage ceremony, while the wedding party is in the altar area, devotional songs may be sung. The coordinator must be consulted in advance with respect to the musical content, and if music other than the traditional is desired, approval must be secured. Some songs that may have special meaning to you are best reserved for the reception.
