Presbyterian Urban Ministries

Presbyterian Urban Ministries (PUM) is fulfilling God's commandment to feed the hungry, cloth the needy, and look after the poor. They do this by supplying basic life necessities such as food, clothing, hygiene items, and referral services. The other way is through empowerment. They empower people by helping them back to work by providing assistance for identification documents, transportation to job interviews new jobs, proper work attire and other employment referral resources.

“This is our special duty, that if anyone specially
needs our help, we should give him such help to
the utmost of our power.” - Cicero

Volunteers are an integral part of making this ministry to the less fortunate happen. Over 40 wonderful people volunteer thousands of hours each year as receptionists, caseworkers, food packers, grounds keepers and clothes distributors. PUM volunteers are very much the foundation of this ministry. Without them, PUM would not be able to accomplish what God has commanded us to do.

How You Can Help

  • Front desk worker - answer phones and do client intake
  • Case worker - work with clients needing our services
  • Doorstep Ministry - Speak to clients about God and life on our front waiting area as they are waiting to be served. Ideal for people who like to evangelize.

  • Midweek Bible Study - looking for people to assist with and prepare Bible studies for the homeless
