The Season of Creation is a time for Christians around the world to renew our relationship with God and all creation through prayer, celebration, and action. It began on September 1, the Day of Prayer for Creation, and concludes October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology. The tradition began in the Orthodox Church in 1989 and was expanded by the World Council of Churches into a month-long ecumenical season. Throughout the Season of Creation, we are encouraging each other to commit to a serious creation-conscious practice — perhaps something at home like using less plastic, or perhaps a more public stand like speaking up for the preservation of our national parks and monuments. So many meaningful possibilities! Whatever your heart chooses, please write it on one of the birds flying near the sanctuary door and then return it to its flock before or after the worship service you attend. At the end of September, we will share our thoughts and efforts over a pancake breakfast.
